Editorial From Guest Editor Robby McAlpine:
The Porpoise Diving Life, October 2007
Welcome to the October issue of The PDL! My name is Robby McAlpine, more commonly (infamously?) known as robbymac, and I’ll be the guest editor – or ring-master, if you prefer – of this issue.
This month’s theme is based around the idea of being “Charis-Missional”. People who would have previously been identified as Charismatic are a large part of the overall emerging/missional conversation, and while definitely post-charismatic in the cultural-praxis sense, there is still the underlying question of how things like spiritual gifts (particularly gifts of prophecy, healing, etc.) will fit into the emerging/missional conversation.
Underneath all of this, there needs to be an understanding of how being charismissional is based in seeing the Kingdom of God as Jesus taught and modeled it. Being post-charismatic says something about our journey to date, but as the journey of detoxing from church continues, we need to re-examine the place of the charismata in our communitas, which leads naturally to a progression from Post-Charismatic to Charis-Missional.In bringing this topic to the table, I have enlisted the capable talents and insights of several fellow post-charismatics, Brother Maynard and Emerging Grace. As always, their writings inspire and challenge me, and I trust they will do the same for you.
